355. América: Accompanying the Elderly and Giving Back What We Receive
Taking care of the elderly sometimes requires people to drop their lives for a moment and be with them 24/7. This is the story of an elderly lady called América where her grand children are called to take care of her due to unforeseen events. This documentary shows in a a very unique manner the way that the grandchildren manage to make of this rather difficult process an opportunity to make her spend the best possible time that she has left, and that includes tenderly manners towards her while disagreements and heated fights spurt between the brothers that find themselves economically struggling to keep themselves going with this situation.
This is one of my favorite documentaries from Ambulante 2019 Documentary Festival, a life impacting one because it enabled me to see how it is possible to be patient, loving and caring towards the elderly in their senile phase and understand the cycle of life this represents. But of course, there’s some economic support that’s needed for those that devote themselves to accompany their elderly loved ones. Let’s discuss more about that and planning our own elderly phase too 🙂
