356. Midnight Family: The Shadiness of Making a Living by Saving People’s Lives
The Documentary Familia de Medianoche (Midnight Family) shares the raw and real time story of a family in Mexico City that drives their own ambulance at night for a living. This is done to provide a service that the federal healthcare system can’t satisfy due lack of units. Besides getting to learn a lot about what really goes on in this kind of entrepreneurship in the medical field, one gets to see the precariousness and hard work that some people do in order to get by, and how that includes young kids who are placed ‘into the business’ as part of their family activities.
The film has got it all: comedy, drama, action stories of mafia-like business in the medical field, a great display and representation of the average family living in Mexico City and their language 🙂 and the unedited view of the difficulties experienced in one of the biggest cities in the world.
