267. Children of Poverty: What are their Dreams?

What kind of potential is being wasted when children are stunted by poverty? What would the dreams of children living in a supportive environment and a guaranteed living income be like? What are the current dreams of those living in Slums in the Philippines? What can we do to stop the ongoing trend of aspiring showbiz jobs only to make money? Let’s discuss the future of children in the world with a Guaranteed Living Income
The Slum: The six-part documentary series The Slum introduces the residents of Tondo – the most densely populated and least developed part of Manila – as they strive for success against the odds.

Interesting documentary.
Together with other progressive reforms, a minimum income guarantee would help alleviate many of the problems plaguing not just the Philippines but our own societies as well. Persuading non-western governments to guarantee a minimum income, however, will be an uphill struggle until major countries of the West can be persuaded to do likewise and western publics come to regard a minimum income guarantee as a basic human right. This is because, as things stand, it is the West that dominates the non-West and non-western countries have, at best, only marginal influence and minimal ability to work outside the norms set by western institutions. Therefore I think emphasis should be placed on campaigns within western Europe and North America aimed at westerners persuading their governments of the urgent need to adopt the minimum income guarantee for their citizens.
Hi John,
I agree and also the consideration for the creation of new political parties/independent politics that can pose basic income as their main principle and proposal, this is in the works in Europe so, I will be following that development because that can surely be an example for the rest of the world.
